CrCl Formula

CrCl > 80: 0.82 mg/kg/hr inhaled. 400 mg po bid when treating Hepatitis C.

Important side effects

Anorexia, dyspepsia, nausea, cardiac arrest, hypotension, bradycardia (inhaled), conjunctivitis, headache (inhalation; health-care workers administering ribavirin), fatigue, headache, hemolytic anemia, pancreatitis, precipitation of drug within the ventilatory apparatus (inhaled), rash, pruritus, worsening respiratory status including death (inhaled).

Important drug interactions

Abacavir, didanosine, interferon alfa-2b, lamivudine, stavudine, zalcitabine, zidovudine.

Treatment of choice

Use for

RSV. Hepatitis C (with interferon). It gets thrown at many viral infections whether it does anything or not: hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, hemorrhagic cystitis, hemorrhagic fever, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, adenovirus, hepatitis C with HIV coinfection, hepatitis-giant cell, Herpes simplex infection, influenza infection, papillomatosis, pneumonia - adenovirus, severe acute respiratory syndrome (sars), subacute sclerosing panencephalitis.

Maybe for chronic Hepatitis E.
