Important side effects

Diarrhea, nausea, dizziness, headache, peripheral neuropathy, qt interval prolongation (rare), severe hypersensitivity reactions (rare), tendon rupture (rare). Maybe retinal detachment (PubMed).

Important drug interactions

Antacids, antidiabetic agents, cisapride, class ia antiarrhythmic agents, class iii antiarrhythmic agents, corticosteroids, iron, mesoridazine, phenothiazines, sucralfate, thioridazine, tricyclic antidepressants, zinc, ziprasidone.

As with all quinolones, antacids bind the drug to prevent absorption.

Arthritis, Bronchitis, Cellulitis, Cholangitis and Cholecystitis, Cystic fibrosis, Endophthalmitis - postoperative, Gonorrhea, gynecologic infections, Helicobacter pylori - triple therapy, Legionella, Leprosy, Malaria, Meningitis, Neutropenic fever, Osteomyelitis, Pancreatitis, Peritonitis, Pneumonia, Prostatitis,Q fever, Salmonella, Typhoid fever, UTI.
