Cidofovir (Vistide®)


CrCl Formula

CrCl > 55: 5 mg/kg q wk x 2. Probenecid may be administered at 2 grams 3 hr prior and one gram administered at 2 hr after and again at 8 hr after each cidofovir infusion (for a total of 4 grams). Probenecid may increase over all toxicity. Contraindicated with CrCl < 55 or creat > 1.5 or > 100 mg proteinuria.


Peritoneal dialysis:

Important side effects

Nephrotoxic, neutropenia, uveitis and Fanconis.

Important drug interactions

Avoid other nephrotoxins (aminoglycosides, pentamadine).

Treatment of choice

Use for

CMV, acyclovir resistant Herpes simplex (one time dose).

Maybe BK virus.

Don't use for


Acyclic nucleoside phosphonate.
