Adefovir (Hepsera®)


CrCl Formula

CrCl > 80:

HIV: 125 mg po qd.

Hepatitis B:

CrCl 50 or greater: 10 mg every 24 hours.

CrCl 20 to 49: 10 mg every 48 hours.

CrCl 10 to 19: 10 mg every 72 hours.

CrCl less than 10: no dosing recommendation.

CrCl hemodialysis: 10 mg every 7 days following dialysis.

Important side effects

nephrotoxicity, decreases in phosphorus, hepatitis.

Treatment of choice

Use for

HIV; Hepatitis B.At least that is what they are tested for. I suggest not using it for either disease, for HIV use tenofivir (Thanks Sally). Use after a failure of lamivudine in e antigen positive patients.

Don't use for


acyclic nucleotide analogue.
