Epidemiologic Risks

Found water, soil, and plants.

Stenotrophomonas, water borne, is a problem in dialysis units with line infections (PubMed).


Nosocomial infections (cancer patients (PubMed)), intravenous drug user and cystic fibrosis.

Often colonizing hospital equipement and environment.


TMP/Sulfa has been the treatment of chice (there may be synergy when ticarcillin/clavulanate is added) or minocycline (Pubmed) or perhaps cefepime, often resistant to quinolones, aminoglycosides, carbapenems, and other third generation cephalosporins (PubMed).

Tigecycline may be sensitive (PubMed).

Given all the resistance, get susceptibilities.
