Roseomonas

Microbiology

Fat pink aerobic (I resist the obvious comparison to a TV personality. So good of me.) gram negative coccoid rods and includes R. cervicalis, R. fauriae, R. gilardii, R. mucosa, and others.

Epidemiologic Risks

Environmental organism: water, dirt, plants.

R. mucosa is part of the human microbiome (PubMed).

Syndromes

A variety of community acquired and nosocomial illnesses including pneumonia and line related infections (PubMed).

Treatment

Imipenem OR aminoglycosides (amikacin) OR tetracycline OR quinolones. Third generations cephalosporins unreliable.

Susceptibilities vary by species.

Notes

Resistant to trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole, penicillins (except penicillin/beta-lactamase inhibitors) and cephalosporins.
