Epidemiologic Risks

Water borne. Mostly fresh and brackish water, it has also been found in the gi tract humans, cows, goats, swine, pigs, dogs, fish,monkeys, vultures, snakes, toads and more. Found in aquariums.


Usually watery diarrhea more often than bloody and the usual hodgepodge of extra-intestinal infections in poor hosts. Every bug is reported everywhere by someone.


Third generation cephalosporins OR quinolones.

For diarrhea most are mild and do not require treatment, but ciprofloxacin, 750 mg once a day; or azithromycin, 500 mg once a day, both for 3 days (PubMed).
