Epidemiologic Risks

Found from Pakistan through SE Asia, Japan, India, Eastern Russia and the Philippines. Transmitted by mosquitoes.

Syndromes

Diagnose with serology on blood or csf.

Could it be......encephalitis. But most (99%) are asymptomatic but 1 in 4 who get encephalitis die and at least 30% of the rest have neurological sequella.

Treatment

Supportive. There is a vaccine (and it cross reacts with West Nile virus).

Notes

"JEV originated from its ancestral virus in the mid 1500s in the Indonesia-Malaysia region and evolved there into different genotypes, which then spread across Asia (PubMed)."
