Globicatella

Microbiology

Globicatella sanguinis and G. sulfidifaciens. A gram-positive cocci in chains, small, α-hemolytic colonies cocci in chains. Might be misidentified as a viridans streptococcus.

Epidemiologic Risks

Part of the GI tract.

Syndromes

Hodgepodge of infections: bacteremia, endocarditis, osteomyelitis and meningitis.

Treatment

Vancomycin and penicillin are good choices (PubMed).

Often with increased MIC to 3rd generation cephalosporins and meropenam.
