Fungus. Includes F. compacta, F. pedrosoi, F. monophora and F. nubica,

Epidemiologic Risks

Soil trauma. Mostly in subtropical and tropical areas. F. monophora and F. nubica are in more temperate areas.

Syndromes

Fonsecaea pedrosoi causes chromomycosis.

Treatment

Cryo-surgery and itraconazole alternated with terbinafine (PubMed) or voriconazole (PubMed)(in vitro data only). Data little more than extended case reports; the pleural of anecdote being anecdotes, not data.
