Chryseobacterium

Microbiology

A gram negative curved thin rod. Chryseobacterium indologenes, C. meningosepticum.

Epidemiologic Risks

Found in water and soil, plants, and food products.

Syndromes

Usually a colonizer, C. meningosepticum can cause meningitis in neonates and Chryseobacterium indologenes pneumonia/sepsis in adults.

Treatment

Resistant to pretty much everything, try TMP/Sulfa, a quinolone, or minocycline. In one series for Chryseobacterium indologenes cefoperazone-sulbactam and TMP/Sulfa (PubMed).
