Saprochaete (Blastoschizomyces) capitus

A fungus also called Trichosporon capitatum. Found in environment and on the skin.

Epidemiologic Risks

Severe prolonged neutropenia.

In Europe it is usually found in Southern, warmer, parts but may be coming north with warming (PubMed).

Fungemia in neutropenics, often with positive blood cultures (PubMed).

Amphotericin B with flucytosine.

Maybe use voriconazole; it may have the best MIC's (PubMed) (PubMed).

The paucity of cases make definitive recommendations impossible.

Maybe half of isolates are fluconazole resistant and may be caspofungin resistant as well.
